Wfile - Batch Tool Ver. 1.5 (c) 2008-2013, Horst Schaeffer
----------------------------------------------------------
Wfile includes two programs:
+ "FileToOpen" for source files
+ "FileToSave" for target files
The programs offer an "Open file" or "Save as" dialog window to select a file
or enter a file name, and makes the user's input available in the batch process.
Multi file selection is optional (FileToOpen).
The programs can be used to set an environment variable or to run a
program or command with the selected file(s).
The filename with full path will be appended to a user defined command
string and sendt to STDOUT.
This output must be redirected to a temporary batch file, which is CALLed
to execute the command. Alternatively, you can use a FOR /F construct as
described in "GetOutput.txt".
By default the file path(s) will be returned in quote marks.
See option /noquote.
+++ General syntax (in square brackets: optional):
FileToOpen "CommandString" "PathAndFilters" ["WindowTitle"] [Options]
FileToSave "CommandString" "PathAndFilters" "WindowTitle" ["DefaultName"] [Options]
CommandString
will be prepended to the returnd file name(s)
PathAndFilters
is the initial path with one or more file pattern(s),
which must be separated by semicolon. Do not insert any space.
Examples:
C:\some\where\*.* offer all files
\*.doc from root of current drive: all DOC files
.\*.jpg;*.png;*.gif in current dir: JPG,PNG,GIF image files
WindowTitle
whatever you want to show in the title bar
DefaultName
to initialize the SaveAs name input box (without path!)
Each of the string parameters should be enclosed in quote marks,
to make sure that they are interpreted as entities.
General options:
/noquote Returned file path(s) will not be enclosed in quote marks.
/noCRLF No CR+LF will be appended to the output line.
FileToOpen options:
/maynotexist The selected file may not exist, i.e. it is possible
to specify a new file name.
/multiselect The user may select more that one file. The file names
are returned as a sequence, separated by blank space.
Each file name enclosed in quote marks by default.
FileToSave option:
/overwritePrompt ask permission if file already exists
+++ Example to set a variable:
FileToOpen "SET fname=" ".\*.txt;*.doc" "Select file" > temp.bat
call temp.bat
(fname is a variable name of your choice)
This may produce a command like this in temp.bat:
SET fname="C:\selected\dir\myfile.txt"
+++ Example to run a program (Notepad) with the selected file:
FileToOpen Notepad ".\*.txt;*.ini" "Open Text File" > temp.bat
call temp.bat
This may produce a command like this in temp.bat:
Notepad "C:\selected\dir\MyFile.txt"
To test the output at the command prompt just omit the redirection.
Notes:
Command arguments must be separated by space (no commas!).
Remember to delete temporary batch files after use. A temporary file
in the %temp% directory is recommended.
Exit Code:
Errorlevel 0: ok (selection by user)
1: cancelled
255: syntax error
